"How early in the morning?" I ask.
"Early. Now close your eyes. Go to sleep, love." Our Bestest Mommy closes my door, leaving it slightly ajar. She always leaves the hall light on. I hear her whisper to Lily, "Night night to you too love." Then I hear her footsteps going down the stairs. She joins our Bestest Daddy in the living room to resume their Scrabble game. I wonder who is winning.
After ten minutes of not falling asleep, I whisper loudly, "Lily, are you asleep?"
I hear Lily turning about in bed and the sound of her rustling blankets. "Yes." She's only 4 1/2 years old but she's nice to talk to anyway. I'm older by 2 1/2 years so I really have to help her along most of the time.
"Where do you think Bestest Daddy is flying to tomorrow? I wonder what magnet I'll get." Whenever our Bestest Daddy travels, he always brings me and Lily a magnet from that city.
"I dunno. But I hope my magnet is pink."
"Lily, do you sometimes wish you could fly with Bestest Daddy? I know he's just going to work at a Goat Company in a different city but don't you think it would be fun to go with him?" Goat company is not really the name of Bestest Daddy's company. Best Daddy told me that I started calling it this ever since I was very young, about 2 years old, because I couldn't pronounce the real name of the company. The goat is part of their company's logo and when I used to see their trucks drive by, I would point and shout to Bestest Mommy, "There's Goat Company's truck!" The name stuck ever since.
"I wish I could fly in airplane with Bestest Daddy. Do you too Liam?" Lily replies.
"I just said I wanted to. Remember what Bestest Mommy said to us about wishing? She said that if we wished really hard for something and if we try to think about it very hard, it can come true. I really wish that we could fly with Bestest Daddy tomorrow. I'm going to think about it very hard in my dreams."
"Me, too. I'm going to dream about flying with Bestest Daddy too. Good night Liam."
"Night, Lily."
I lay awake for little while more but as my eyes grow heavy, I keep saying to myself, I wish Lily and I could fly with Bestest Daddy tomorrow. I wish...I wish...
